Programme
Although Ryoji Ikeda, a leading exponent of glitch music, is known above all for his electronic music with visuals, the Japanese artist has also composed works for acoustic instruments. They include Body Music and Metal Music, which form part of the Music for Percussion cycle. These compositions draw on early minimalism, especially works by Steve Reich, such as Clapping Music and Drumming but Ikeda’s own style is very much in evidence, including features such as high frequencies produced using triangles, complex rhythmic patterns and clear linear processes. The performance will be given by Alexandre Babel, Stéphane Garin and the FRAMES Percussion ensemble, which has close links to Barcelona and L’Auditori, and was the winner of the prestigious Ernst von Siemens Ensemble Prize in 2024.
