Sinulog is a Filipino religious celebration linked to the city of Cebu, and which commemorates the evangelization of the Philippines. The Filipino community residing in Barcelona has been organizing this celebration in the city for more than thirty years.

What role does Sinulog, and its religious framework, play in the Filipino community of Barcelona? How is the reality of being a migrant managed through religious practice and its musical and choreographic dimensions? What differences are there between the meanings given to this practice in the diaspora and in its place of origin?

These questions and others will shape the conversation prior to the celebration of Sinulog, with the participation of Macrina Alcedo Reconsal and Fathers Michael Go and Lino de Castro, active members of the Filipino community, who will bring us closer to their personal and collective experience of the social and territorial reality of Barcelona.

Participants:

Macrina Alcedo Reconsal has lived in Barcelona for 45 years, she has worked in different organizations to support Filipino immigrants and the dissemination of their culture. She has received the Medal of Honor from Barcelona City Council.

Father Lino de Castro is the parish priest of the Filipino Community of the Personal Parish of Barcelona, ​​Immaculate Conception, and San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish.

Father Michael Go, of the order of Saint Augustine, is parochial vicar of Sant Agustí, Barcelona.
