The music of Salvatore Sciarrino (Palermo, 1947) is born in silence and returns to silence, addressing time as a primordial matter. His works are situated on the edge of audibility, simultaneously creating an intimate, tense and expressive atmosphere. The Italian composer penetrates the nature of sound at its very limit, and extracts its gestural and poetic potential establishing a new musical syntax and inspiring an exacting and renewed way of listening. Sciarrino’s vocal works are also presented from this aesthetic perspective, unlocking the textual and sound dimensions of the voice using a delicate timbric sensitivity. Some elements of Sciarrino’s music are also distinctive manifestations in the music of Pablo Carrascosa Llopis and Daniel Apodaka. Within this musical context, Carrascosa Llopis, guest composer at L’Auditori, will open the concert with a premiere piece written for CrossingLines together with several primary school pupils from the innovative educational project entitled “Els compositors entren a l’aula” (The Composer Goes to the Classroom).
