Program

Concert included in Jazz Sessions and in Sampler SeriesRenowned improvisational quartet Dans les arbres, made up of three Norwegians and a ‎Frenchman, explores the no-man’s land between music and sound. Blurring the border ‎separating one from the other, they find music in sound and vice versa, through ‎spontaneous compositions of striking beauty and tactility.‎
Their sound investigation is almost physical, they move with great precision through different ‎combinations of players and instruments, evoking avant-garde sounds from the 20th century ‎and combining acoustic instruments with elements of current experimental music technology.‎
After making two highly acclaimed albums with ECM, in 2017 Dans les arbres saw the release ‎of Phosphorescence on the independent Norwegian label Hubro, an album ‎which moves away from its predecessors’ aesthetic context of contemporary improvised ‎chamber music, towards a more mixed economy of means, with some electronic processing, ‎amplification and real-time sampling.‎
