Program
Music inspired by the land, history and tradition take centre stage in a concert that includes one of the most important works for concert band of the 20th century: Lincolnshire Posy by Percy Grainger, an Australian composer who was a pioneer in the field of ethnomusicology. In a manner similar to Bartók, he would travel to towns and villages recording popular folk melodies which he later used in his works, seeking to reflect the character of the person who had given him the gift of their song. The programme includes three Catalan works: the magnificent score that the composer and conductor Xavier Pagès wrote, drawing inspiration from the history of the Almogavars; the popular “Música per a un Diumenge” (Music for a Sunday) by Montsalvatge, dedicated to our Symphony Band; and several marches by Enric Granados, originally written for piano.
