programme
Pianist Jaeden Izik-Dzurko, winner of the 67th edition of the Maria Canals Competition, presents a repertoire divided into two parts: the first consists of two works that transmit the light and colour of the Mediterranean coast – Alborada del Gracioso by Maurice Ravel, and Somnis radiants by Elisenda Fábregas, which he composed and dedicated to the Canadian pianist – and a second piece consisting of two crucial segments of keyboard literature: a prelude and fugue by Bach, originally written for organ, and transcribed by Liszt for piano; and one of Chopin’s most emblematic Scherzos, full of contrasts and expressing the romantic spirit of the Polish composer, written between 1831 and 1832, when the musician was 21 years old and in Paris during a turbulent time, which he conveys perfectly in the piece
