Program
Israelsbrünnlein, also known as Israelis Brünnlein (Fontana d’Israel), is a collection of twenty-six motets considered the most significant in German seventeenth-century music. Originally composed for special liturgical events, such as weddings or funerals, it is based on a number of texts in German from the Old and New Testaments and connects central European polyphony with the style of the traditional Italian madrigal. Writing for five voices, and in one case six, Johann Hermann Schein uses highly expressive techniques to emphasise the purpose of the text through the clarity of each syllable. This highly distinctive piece is brought to us by the Jove Capella Reial de Catalunya.
