Program
At Festival Emergents, Taller de Músics will be presenting the latest project by versatile Barcelona guitarist and composer Ernest Pipó. Pipó’s influences encompass jazz, blues, hip-hop, improvisation and singer-songwriting. In his latest work, entitled Negro Spirituals, he surrounds himself with a trusted group of musicians, offering a reinterpretation in jazz mode of what we know as negro spirituals: religious songs that originated among Afro-American slaves in the United States. These songs, which we have heard in arrangements by artists such as Archie Shepp, Albert Ayler and Hank Jones, now take on new life in arrangements for sextet by Ernest Pipó.
