Program
The Band closes the season with a lyrical gala featuring soprano Ruth Rosique who will perform opera arias by Mozart and Puccini, including the captivating O Mio Babbino Caro, and excerpts from the most popular zarzuelas, including the unmissable Canción de la Paloma and the Romanza de Raquel.Soprano Ruth Rosique was born in a Barcelona and trained in Andalusia and regularly appears at some of Europe’s best venues. She takes on three of the most significant female roles in the history of opera: the clever and seductive Zerlina, the sweet and love sick Lauretta and the dependable and faithful Liu. In the second half the focus moves away from drama and features the most upbeat and colourful pieces from the uniquely Spanish genre that is zarzuela, from instrumental sections full of rhythm and passion to songs that have become very well known, such as Sierras de Granada sung by Maria the gypsy girl, La Tempranica and the Tango de la Menegilda (Housemaid’s Tango) in which the housemaid tells of the hardship experienced by the servants of La Gran Vía.
