Instructions. Relationships between listening and looking is an exhibition based on research into the archive of the CDDMC (Centre for Documentation and Dissemination of Contemporary Music), which is currently preserved in the Museum of Music's archive.
The CDDMC was founded in 1986 by the Barcelona City Council under the direction of composer Joan Guinjoan. Its objective, until its closure in 1994, was to create a reference collection on music created after 1950, including scores, writings, and phonographic documents. In addition to its documentary function, the Centre promoted the International Contemporary Music Weeks, events that had a significant international impact.
Thirty years after its closure, between March and July 2024, designer Alba Font conducted a graphic reading of the materials from the archive. The exhibition is the result of this process: a play on relationships between materials from musical language and elements of visual and graphic communication.
This intervention into the archive is part of the collaboration program between the Museum of Music and the Robert Gerhard Centre with Difraccions, a cycle dedicated to research music and new creation. This year's edition focuses on "listening itineraries," with the aim of proposing, confronting, debating, and analyzing what it means to listen today.
