Rudolf Buchbinder, conductor and piano
Program
Beethoven’s five masterpieces for piano and orchestra, performed over a single weekend by Rudolf Buchbinder. The Austrian pianist and conductor had already achieved this great feat with the OBC in 2015: the audience filled the L’Auditori, applauding it wholeheartedly, and the critics were astounded, with comments such as “Precise, clean, exact, forceful, seductive” (El País), “Apotheosis at L’Auditori. Spectacular marathon” (El Periódico) and “Classic, elegant, brilliant rendition” (Núvol). These five all-time jewels of the piano repertoire allow us to grasp the evolution of Beethoven’s language and how, concert after concert, he increasingly and better exploited the interpretative possibilities of an instrument that he himself helped to evolve. Performing all five in just three days is a challenge that very few artists are capable of rising to: Buchbinder is back.
