Program
With the excuse of the 75th anniversary of the death of Glenn Miller, we go on a journey through the most upbeat and uplifting music of the first half of the 20th century. First we visit “black music”, then “music for dancing” and finally we reach that which completely dominated popular music for the rest of the century. Blues, jazz, ragtime, Dixieland, Charleston, swing, rhythm & blues, mambo, rock & roll, it’s impossible to stand still when listening to this music! The big names of American popular music make it onto the band’s music stands: Louis Armstrong, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Pérez Prado, Bill Haley, Elvis Presley… When the music from the African-American people, enslaved for so many years, began to be heard across North America, no one predicted that this optimistic music that made people dance, would permeate the whole world in such a short period of time. Only 50 years have passed from the first Negro spirituals and the blues of New Orleans to the rock and roll of Chuck Berry. Music full of rhythm is the perfect choice for our musicians’ social initiative with the Raval’s Band.
