Program
The Argentinian Miguel Etchegoncelay enjoys great prestige as a conductor of symphony bands and is a professor of this specialism at the Strasbourg Conservatory of Music. He is once again visiting Catalonia, this time with an eclectic programme which will feature music with Latin roots.Highlights of the programmed Hispanic works include the colourful “Danzas Fantásticas” (Fantastic Dances) by Turina, which premiered exactly one hundred years ago with three dance types: a jota, a zortziko and a farruca. With regard to Latin American music, apart from Gershwin’s hugely popular Cuban Overture, the characteristic rhythms of samba shine brightly, running high and low through the work by Hudson Nogueira, a direct and intense provocation to get your hips and the rest of your body moving.
