Program
With our Early Music season drawing to a close, we offer a concert with Jordi Savall, in which we rekindle the spirit of the festivals of the British royalty. As the close of the Early Music season draws near, in a concert with Jordi Savall we celebrate the revival of the spirit of festivities enjoyed by the British monarchy. With Water Music we are able to once again hear the music that was performed from a barge on the River Thames in July 1717, the response to the request made by King George I to his Kapellmeister. Years later, King George II, wanting to celebrate the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle, commissioned Handel to compose Music for the Royal Fireworks in 1749. Today we present them as a celebration of the beginning of summer.
