Program
The colours, rhythms and energy of Ibero-American music have made it on the band’s music stands so we get to experience a world full of popular dances, songs and festivals where movement and beauty take centre stage. It is years since Latin American works were regularly heard in the European concert halls and we have finally learnt to appreciate the value of this music that is inspired by the land, while at the same time incorporates modern techniques. The tangos of Piazzolla burst onto the scene in the middle of the 20th century despite opposition from the ‘old guard’. Over time his energy and sincerity have won them over. Carlos Chávez also held nothing back, his music is direct and lively, incorporating elements from Mexican culture perfectly combined with modern creativity. Victoriano Valencia is a renowned Colombian composer. According to Pascual-Vilaplana, “he knows how to combine skilled writing with the human side of music”, and to demonstrate this, we present the commemorative work celebrating the bicentenary of the independence of Colombia.
