Programme
In 1997, a group of musicians from the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra decided to keep making music together. Thus, accompanied by legendary conductor Claudio Abbado, they founded the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, one of today’s top benchmarks in terms of musical excellence, with a unique organisational model.
After the demise of their mentor, the MCO turned to the acclaimed Daniele Gatti as its artistic advisor, and he will be the conductor as they present Franz Joseph Haydn’s Sinfonia Concertante. Written to rival the successful works of his pupil Ignace Pleyel, it features an uncommon series of soloists: oboe, bassoon, violin, and cello. Alongside this exceptional example of a classical symphony, they perform two neoclassical readings of this form, by two 20th century composers who lived through the war: Sergei Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 1 – known as ‘Classical’ – and Igor Stravinsky’s Symphony in C.
Experience the dress rehearsal as if you were part of the orchestra!
The Mahler Chamber Orchestra is the star, along with Gustavo Dudamel, of the immersive virtual show Symphony. We want you to have this real and exciting experience live and up close, which will make you feel like you are one of the musicians with Daniele Gatti as your conductor.
Buy a ticket and you will be entered into a draw for one of the 8 places to experience the dress rehearsal from the top of the stage just before the concert (if you already have a ticket, we will also include you in the draw). We will do the drawing and contact the winners on Thursday 23 November. Good luck!
