Program
The mix of styles, use of samples and a live performance staged like a DJ session with live musicians gave rise to Bring that Noise. The project, named in honour of Public Enemy song Bring the Noise, originated from the idea of drummer and producer Marc Soto to create new ways of experimenting and a relationship between black music and electronic. Soto shaped the different pieces of the project using samples of pre-existing music, using a process that is essential and inherent in hip-hop culture. Cuts from Funky Drummer, by James Brown; Amen, Brother, by The Winstons, and Apache, by the Incredible Bongo Band provided the inspiration for creating a performance that mixes up funk, soul, afrobeat and jazz with electronic, hip-hop, trap and dubstep.
