Program
Joventuts Musicals de Catalunya and L’Auditori present a day dedicated to young Catalan musicians or musicians who have trained in Catalonia, where we will discover the musical talents of future generations from our region. In this edition, we will meet cellist Mariona Camats, awarded the Pau Casals International Scholarship 2016, and Argentinian soprano Mercedes Gancedo, winner of the 2017 edition of the El Primer Palau prize. The double concert will provide an overview of classical music, from 18th-century Germany to 20th-century Argentina. Camats will present two masterworks from the cello and keyboard repertoire: the Sonata for viola da gamba No. 1 by Johann Sebastian Bach, a work of a serene and restful expressivity, and the brilliant Sonata for Cello No. 1 by Johannes Brahms. Gancedo, meanwhile, will offer us a musical tour of her native Argentina, with songs by Carlos Guastavino and Alberto Ginastera, the famous Five Black Songs by Xavier Montsalvatge and the delightfully comical I Hate Music! and Four Recipes by Leonard Bernstein.
