Program
Martin Fröst is a global spectacle: he’s world number 1, using the virtuosity and sensitivity of the clarinet as a form of communication. With him, music and movement merge into one. And we also have Elgar’s First Symphony, conducted by the young New Yorker James Feddeck.Edward Elgar earned the respect of the English public when he was already a grown man. It was exactly 100 years ago —when he was already 50— that his First Symphony premiered, in Manchester, and it was so successful that in less than a year it had exceeded a hundred performances all over the world: “It reflects a wide experience of life, with love and a great hope for the future”. Hillborg’s Clarinet Concerto could actually be entitled the “Fröst Concerto”, because the clarinet is not the only protagonist: Martin Fröst, with his spectacular performance, magic and physical agility, transforms the work into a unique piece that goes beyond the traditional concept of “concerto” that we are all familiar with.
