Program
The super trio comprising violinist Daniel Sepec, the violist Tabea Zimmermann and cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras will headline this concert as part of the Chamber Music season. The violinist Daniel Sepec, the violist Tabea Zimmermann and cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras are all top international soloists that have never wavered in their commitment to chamber music. One of the fruits of this commitment has been the formation of the Arcanto Quartet together with the violinist Antje Weithaas, who features in the first Chamber Music concert of this season. In their concert at L’Auditori, the three instrumentalists come together as a super trio to perform the masterpiece Divertimento in E-flat major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Divertimento is one of the best chamber music pieces by Mozart, an expression of his inner world at the time it was composed in 1788, when he was immersed in a state of great turmoil between creative joyfulness and worldly woes. Lyrical movements, the sonata form, the theme with variations, the fugue and opera buffa all come together in this work, drawing on simple themes that Mozart develops with a mastery that few others have ever achieved. Rounding off this stylish and attractive programme is Serenade in D major by Ludwig van Beethoven, a piece he composed using the same structure as Mozart’s Divertimento, and Sándor Veress’ String Trio, which followed the musical tradition of his compatriots Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály.
