Program
The beat of Africa has never ceased to mark the vital and artistic rhythm of multi-faceted Nino Galissa. It is now 10 years since this artist from Guinea Bissau resident in Catalonia presented his first album, N’Namolu (My People), in Barcelona, which was an emotional rediscovery of his origins. Since then, this Mandingo Griot Singer-songwriter baptised Bubacar Galissa Kouyaté has gone on to captivate audiences with his quality, originality and musical sensitivity in the company of his inseparable kora. His latest album, Africa Today, is a private diary of hopes and dreams from which he projects the desire for an African continent free from famine, poverty, war, diseases and death, where music stands as an element of union and wealth and an agent of peace. For Nino, this concert will be a particular offering to everyone who has followed him over the past 10 years, with a journey through the most iconic songs of his repertoire – sung in Mandingo, Creole, Fula, English, Spanish and Catalan – where he highlights the unifying spirit and integrating soul that defines him both as a person and as musician. In any event, it will be a historic and emotive celebration that you must not miss.
