Universo normal is the first work as a leader by the young pianist, singer and composer Lucia Fumero, who trained in classical music, jazz and Latin music in Barcelona and Rotterdam. In Universo normal, Fumero gives free rein to all those influences through an imagination fuelled by personal and universal stimuli: “Universo normal is the gateway to my imagination. That’s why it’s normal and, at the same time, universal. It’s a concept that inspires magic, while, simultaneously, something as vast as the universe is concentrated in an element as basic and deep-rooted as folk music.” With the accompaniment of well-known names from the Spanish jazz scene, such as Martín Leiton and Juan Rodríguez Berbín, the music of Universo normal takes folklore as its starting point and transforms it through the sounds of classical music and jazz: a uniquely colourful, charming mix.
