Programme

This concert is included in the celebration of the 25th anniversary of L’Auditori

Outstanding composer Raquel García-Tomás, winner of the 2020 National Music Prize, presents the premiere of a work commissioned by L’Auditori. The piece reflects her admiration for the aesthetics of French music, such as Ravel’s ballet Daphnis et Chloé, which is also included in this concert.

In addition to the suite from this work prepared by Ravel himself, two essential pieces by the French composer will also be performed: the exotic Shéhérazade, featuring Fleur Barron’s magnificent voice, and the extraordinary Pavane pour une infante défunte (Pavane for a Dead Princess) in which the French horn plays a leading role.

The programme is completed by Montsalvatge’s cycle Cinco canciones negras (Five Negro Songs). After the success of his Canción de cuna para dormir a un negrito (Lullaby for a Little Black Boy), the composer wrote four more songs based on West Indian poetry and sound, thus completing the work that launched the Catalan composer’s career internationally.
