Program

Alina Ibragimova is one of Europe’s most acclaimed young talents: a daughter of musicians and a virtuoso since childhood, she is recognised for her special sensitivity when handling such a vast repertoire. We had a taste of this when she performed Bach and Ysaye at L’Auditori, and now we are fortunate to hear it again with the performance of Britten’s Violin Concerto. The composer began to conceive the work following his stay in Barcelona in 1936 and it was premiered by Catalan violinist Antoni Brosa at the Carnegie Hall in New York.Kazushi Ono opens the programme with the most international of Japanese composers and closes it with Tchaikovsky’s intense Fifth, a symphony in which the composer explores the theme of fate and exploits the resources of the Romantic orchestra to the fullest.
