For another consecutive year, the opening concert of the Chamber Music season at L’Auditori will feature first-class, local musicians. For another consecutive year, the opening concert of the Chamber Music season at L’Auditori will feature first-class, local musicians. The Orquestra Da Camera pays tribute to the Associació Música da Camera, founded in 1913 and which, under the artistic direction of Pau Casals, created a powerful philharmonic tradition that positioned Catalonia at the very heart of international musical activity. The Orquestra Da Camera is formed by members of Casals Quartet, Quartet Gerhard and Cuarteto Quiroga, plus young Catalan musicians who regularly collaborate with the best international orchestras. In their concert at L’Auditori, under the direction of Antje Weithaas, they will perform major works from the chamber orchestra repertoire: Serenade by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, one of the most iconic pieces by the Russian composer and a musical monument in the orchestral repertoire; Metamorphosen by Richard Strauss, composed during the closing months of the Second World War as a cry for culture to reign over barbarity; and the Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge, the work that Benjamin Britten wrote as a tribute to his teacher, depicting his human and musical qualities.
