Program
The young director from Tarragona Marcel Ortega returns to lead the Band, this time he offers us a hugely varied programme incorporating epic and energetic music with the most dramatic and romantic music. We are taken on a musical journey visiting the colours of ancient China and the magic of love able to bring unrivalled energy to lovers.According to British composer Philip Sparke, “I started to write the piece with a steady tempo, but I had no idea where it would take me”. The result was his most thrilling work. Chinese composer Chen Yi brings us cultural sounds from her country with a spectacular offering full of exoticism and energy. The European contribution comes in two parts; the first part is from Italian composer Respighi, with a work inspired by the mystery and majesty of medieval Scottish castles, and the second is one of the key chapters of romantic music – Isolde’s ‘love death’, where she is united with her beloved to access a higher energy as the notes of one of the most inspired of Wagner’s pieces are played.
