Simone Young, the most acclaimed orchestra conductor on the symphonic circuit, returns to lead the OBC with an internationally renowned musician: Javier Perianes. The Andalusian pianist has already collaborated with the OBC on several occasions (with concerts by Beethoven and Saint-Saens) and this time brings us one of the most important works of the piano repertoire of all times: Brahms’s Second Concerto, an orchestral monument of immense magnitude which is widely considered to be “the piano concerto par excellence.”Schubert’s Sixth Symphony, also known as the ‘Little C Major’ – to distinguish it from the Ninth Symphony in the same key (known as the ‘Great C Major) -, is a sweet symphonic wonder influenced by his adored Beethoven and Rossini but which, unfortunately, could not be premiered until a few months after Schubert’s death. Full of joyful twists and overflowing with optimism, it is a work worth discovering.
