Programme
Sinulog is a festival that originated in Cebu City in the Philippines to celebrate the arrival of Jesus, known as Santo Niño. This religious and cultural celebration is also observed in other major cities in the Philippines.
The celebration’s centrepiece event, which can last for weeks, takes place on the third Sunday in January and involves a large procession where participants dance to traditional music in colourful costumes, somewhat of a staple during the celebration. Sinulog includes a mixture of Christian and pre-colonial rites that both express their faith and showcase the country’s cultural wealth.
The Filipino Catholic community has been organising the Sinulog celebration in Barcelona for the last thirty years. The 2024 celebration will feature the traditional Sinulog dance and a special traditional mass for the festival.
A collaborative liturgical service with the Religious Affairs Office of Barcelona City Council and the Filipino Catholic community of Barcelona.
