Program
Symphonie Fantastique‘s music recounts the tale of an obsessively infatuated young artist. Spellbound by a woman, he raises her to the heights of a perfect being, succumbing to unavoidable explosions of joy, outbursts of fury and jealousy, and unstoppable waves of passions. As the symphonic poem advances, the artist’s fixed notion of his beloved is reflected by a musical leitmotif that is heard repeatedly in all the movements: in the uproar of a party, in a rural scene, during a terrible opium-induced nightmare and, finally, on a grotesque Saturday night.
PROGRAM In the 1830s, Hector Berlioz’s work became one of the leading references in Romantic music. It is also an autobiographical account and a symbol of the artist’s lost mind and life, all for a platonic love.
This concert is Miquel de Jorge Artells’ world premiere. A violinist and composer specialising in music for cinema, he is currently completing his studies at Esmuc.
