Program
A programme packed with musical adventures; from classic fables and tales orchestrated by the American composer Julie Giroux to the misadventures by the Mississippi of Huckleberry Finn, Tom Sawyer’s close friend, not forgetting the charming and fun homage to cartoon music written by British composer Paul Hart.Giroux is one of America’s most important composers of recent years, and has an extensive catalogue of concert music as well as writing for TV and cinema. Her Symphony No. 3 is inspired by classical stories including The Pied Piper of Hamelin, The Ugly Duckling and The Tortoise and the Hare. The work by Cesarini, inspired by Mark Twain’s novel, takes the audience through the main chapters of the novel and highlights the values of freedom and friendship from the original story. Earlier we will have been treated to a performance with our concert band by Juana Guillem, flute soloist with the Spanish National Orchestra, of the brilliant and rhythmic concert by Mike Mower.
