Program
Ravel offers us full-colour music in all of his works. The composer spent his life experimenting with the instrumental timbre, exploring different possibilities and writing some of the most important works in the history of music. Brotons rounds off the programme with Poulenc’s elegant and poetic Concerto for Two Pianos and Dutch composer Van Delft’s Images. The premier of the ballet Daphnis et Chloé was quite an event in 1912 Paris. People went in large numbers to see the great Nijinsky dance, and they were treated to a modern, groundbreaking and inspired work, telling a story with classic Greek Gods, Nymphs, two young lovers and truly thrilling and spectacular end. Chinese pianists Fan Mo and Midori Eto return to Catalonia, having enjoyed success there in recent years, to perform Poulenc’s delightful Concerto for Two Pianos, packed with virtuosity and fun, which he wrote to pay homage to his favourite composers, from Bach and Mozart to Stravinsky and Ravel.
