Program
Vladimir Ashkenazy, one of the greatest names in world classical music, returns to Barcelona. This time he offers us two of the finest French works of the early 20th century: Ravel’s Pavane, with its highly characteristic archaic colour, and Debussy’s La Mer (The Sea), considered an essential work of symphonic music and a challenge for any conductor. The first part contains two scores by Prokofiev, noteworthy being the brilliant and virtuoso Concerto No. 2 in the hands of violin legend Boris Belkin. His recording of this work is still considered a benchmark and, at the age of 70, he continues to perform his art to audiences around the world. Three great names of Russian music – composer, conductor and soloist – accompanied by the OBC.
