Programme
Emerging from the Barcelona Municipal Band, the wind quintet Movivents offers us a concert with canonical works from the repertoire for this band.
Jean Françaix’s successful and virtuosic Wind Quintet No. 1 is a work that demands first-rate players. Each of its four movements serves up different characters and styles, all devised with a fine balance between wit, elegance, irony, and lyricism.
György Ligeti’s Six Bagatelles are little gems that draw contrasting universes with an astonishing economy of resources. These pieces come from Ligeti’s 1953 arrangement of six of the numbers from his intimate yet monumental Musica ricercata for piano.
And the Theme, variations and coda for wind quintet that Salvador Brotons composed when he was still in a formative stage, is a work that explores a choral textural theme through the extensive expressive, virtuosic and lyrical resources of the five instruments.
