Program
The Jove Capella Reial de Catalunya, guided by the wise hands and ears of Lluís Vilamajó, presents a programme fully devoted to one of the most important early baroque works: Membra Jesu Nostri by Dietrich Buxtehude. A cycle of seven intense cantatas with Cistercian reminiscences, it is literally dedicated to parts of the crucified Christ’s body: his feet, knees, hands, sides, breast, heart and head. Each cantata follows the same formal pattern, with six sections: a sonata (that is, an instrumental introduction), a group piece (with all the instruments and voices), a series of three arias (for different combinations) and the repetition of the sonata. It is a captivating, thrilling work, allowing the audience to enjoy some of the most promising voices in the field of Catalan early music.
