The centenary of the birth of Leonard Bernstein is once again a good reason to fill the stage with light, colour, rhythm and good humour. On December 21 and 22 the voices of Gerónimo Rauch, Julian Ovenden, Scarlett Strallen and Rebecca Trehearn will join the OBC to perform some of the most famous numbers from musicals such as West Side Story, Annie, Follies and On The Town.
The four singers who will participate in 100 Years of Bernstein and the American Musical have extensive track records and internationally-renowned careers within the field of musicals.
Gerónimo Rauch has played leading roles in Les Misérables and The Phantom of the Opera in London. In Madrid, he has performed in Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Misérables (also in Barcelona) as well as a large number of concerts.
Scarlett Strallen is a name that has become a true topliner in the world of the musical. With an extensive discography, she has taken on the leading role of Mary Poppins in London’s West End and on Broadway, as well as having starred in revivals of classics such as Singing in the Rain and Annie Get Your Gun.
Regarding Julian Ovenden, his career as an actor and as a singer make him a highly versatile artiste. A specialist in Stephen Sondheim musicals, he has performed as a soloist with major orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic and the Royal Concertgebouw. As an actor, he has appeared in series such as Downton Abbey, Person of Interest, Knightfall and The Crown.
Rebecca Trehearn, winner of the 2017 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, has participated in productions such as Dogfight and Show Boat and will round off a full-star line-up that is sure to thrill all audiences.
Great stars for the OBCPOPS
The OBCPops programme, in its desire to bring music and the OBC to different audiences, returns to the universe of the great American composer Leonard Bernstein to present a selection of pieces from his best musicals and those of other composers and lyricists, such as Irving Berlin and Stephen Sondheim.
Entitled 100 Years of Bernstein and the American Musical, the concert, which will take place on December 21 and 22 in Hall 1 Pau Casals of L’Auditori, will bring together the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, the conductor Alfonso Casado and four of the most renowned singers on the international scene: Gerónimo Rauch, Julian Ovenden, Rebecca Trehearn and Scarlett Strallen.
