The exhibition has already been held at the Museum of Music in Paris and will be travelling toDenmark after its run in Barcelona.
The Museu de la Música in Barcelona presents the exhibition “Guitar ON/OFF”, which can be seen from 20 September to 27 November 2016 in the outdoor space of the L’Auditori. The exhibition consists of a giant guitar measuring 20 metres in length, the result of an international collaboration between theMuseum of Music in Paris, theMuseu de la Música in Barcelona and Ragnarock – the Museum of Pop, Rock and Youth Culture in Roskilde, Denmark.
The exhibition offers visitors a collective multimedia experience that allows them to (re)discover the most popular and universal of instruments. This immersive space is dedicated to live music and the history of the guitar. They can go inside the enormous instrument, which comes to life when someone strums its strings, while the neck of the guitar displays3D images and reveals secrets about iconic guitars.
Once inside the guitar, you can interact with its five different modules. In the On stage space, visitors have the chance to go up on a small stage to “play” certain passages with anair guitar. Aninteractive screen allows visitors to discover the history and the social role of this instrument throughout the centuries. Additionally, by means of large-formataudiovisual projections, visitors can enjoy guitar performances from different eras and in different styles.
“Guitar ON/OFF” also includes a touchscreen that gives visitors a detailed overview of five guitars from the Museum of Music in Paris, through the use of 3D digital images, as well as access to a selection of the most important guitars in the three museums participating in the project. Visitors can also listen to different sound recordings and find out technical information about the instruments. Thanks to the collaboration with the company Woodbrass visitors can enjoy four freely accessible electric guitars.
