Tickets were sold out this weekend for the concert of the opera Turandot by Giacomo Puccini, which marked the close of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra 2018-19 season.
On 24, 25 and 26 May, Sala 1 Pau Casals at L’Auditori hosted the great operatic work, which saw the participation of Coral Carmina, the Puig-Reig Polyphonic Choir and a vocal cast with the voices of sopranos Jennifer Wilson and Elena Pankratova as Turandot, the tenors Simon O’Neill and Mikhail Vekua as Calaf, and the voice of soprano Carmen Solís as Liù, among others.
The artistic and box-office success of Turandot serves as a prologue for the OBC’s Japanese tour in July where, in addition to several symphony concerts, the OBC will take part in the new production of Turandot that Àlex Ollé and La Fura dels Baus are putting together for Tokyo.
Before they go, however, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra will be performing at the Palau de la Música Catalana on 1 and 2 June with Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi, and on 21 June, to coincide with International Music Day, they will offer their traditional concert at the beach, L’OBC a la platja.
