BARCELONA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
2023-24 SEASON
Dicover the new season!
The theme of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra’s new season is “Power or Revolt”, providing an opportunity to explore works that have had a powerful impact on the history of music, because of their narrative and innovative nature.
Beginning with Beethoven’s “Eroica” symphony, and ending with Verdi’s Requiem and a selection from Wagner’s Götterdämmerung (Twilight of the Gods), this new season is sure to inspire and move us all.
One of the things I like most is to devise programmes in which every member of the audience finds something meaningful. We should not forget that the music we appreciate most can leave others indifferent, while music we dislike can open the door to symphonic music for other members of our community. I think this is the secret of the beauty and magic of live symphonic concerts
Curiosity is essential to continue enjoying concerts with passion, and it is what drives me to keep discovering music and composers I don’t know.
All my programmes in this commemorative season will therefore include a work by a Catalan composer, including pieces commissioned from Joan Magrané, Raquel García-Tomás and Octavi Rumbau, three of Barcelona’s most active composers.
As we are approaching the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ravel in 2025, we are inaugurating the Ravel Project, undertaking a series of recordings devoted to this inspirational composer. We will also be combining some of his compositions with works by Montsalvatge during our tour of Stockholm and Hamburg in spring 2024.
